The New Hardy Players formed in 2005 at the request of Norrie Woodhall. The Players celebrate the work of Dorset's world famous and much loved author and poet Thomas Hardy.

A friendly and supportive group from all walks of Dorset life, the players meet throughout the year to perform work written by Dorset writers, and to enjoy each others company. The annual Hardy related play is rehearsed during the spring and performed in the summer The autumn winter and spring months also bring performances from a feast of Dorset Voices including Hardy, Barnes plus new works written by the groups own talented writers.

Why do we do it?

There are many reasons why Players give their time. All have equal importance and include: A love of Thomas Hardy's work; To celebrate Dorset culture and literature; Enjoy the company of like minded and stimulating people; Have a platform for their own writing and desire to perform. To make it even more worthwhile the Players have raised nearly £30,000 for the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust, and £12,000 for local charities.
